Charlotte August Hearing Date Rescheduled

Judge Whitley's August 14 Chapter 7 hearing date is rescheduled back to its original date of August 7. The Clerk's office will send notices as to the rescheduled date for any hearings currently scheduled for August 14. Attorneys expecting prolonged hearings should contact Chambers for a special setting.

Asheville August Hearing Date Rescheduled

Judge Hodges' August 20 Chapter 11 hearing date is rescheduled to August 19.  Chapter 13s and 7s will be heard at 9:30 a.m. and Chapter 11s at 11:00 a.m.  The Clerk's office will send notices as to the rescheduled date for any hearings currently scheduled for August 20.  Attorneys expecting prolonged hearings should contact Chambers for a special setting.

NCBJ Announces Blackshear Fellowship Opportunities for 2014 Conference

The National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges is now accepting applications for its Honorable Cornelius Blackshear Presidential Fellowships for minority lawyers who practice bankruptcy law. Named after esteemed Bankruptcy Judge Blackshear (now retired) of the Southern District of New York, the fellowship program provides both waived conference registration ($900 value) and a stipend for reasonable travel/hotel expenses for five up-and-coming minority bankruptcy practitioners (with less than 10 years' experience) who wish to attend the annual conference of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and who otherwise meet the selection criteria. This year's conference will be held October 8 - 11 in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency.

Credit counseling and financial management courses must be completed through one of the approved providers for the Western District of North Carolina.  The list of approved providers is found under the “information” tab on the Court’s website or directly at
http://www.ncwba.uscourts.gov/credit.html.  Pursuant to 11 USC § 111, providers must be re-approved annually and may be removed at any time.
